Originally from New Jersey, Ian has spent the last decade working primarily with K-12 instrumental music students in PA, NJ, FL, CO, and Oregon. In his academic studies his areas of interest and research include student mindset and resilience, access to the field of music education and music teacher education, student motivation, teacher reflection, and music teacher education. Ian has bachelors degrees in Music and Education from Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ, a Masters of Music Education from the University of Florida, and is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Ian has presented at the New Jersey, Wyoming, Colorado, and Maryland state conferences, the NAFME national research and inservice conference, and numerous local and district professional development sessions. In his spare time he enjoys hiking, travel, and playing saxophone with local and regional ensembles.
